Poll Result.......Striker or Keeper?
g4L_Harry (31 January 2010)
With the impending closure of the winter transfer window and unsurprisingly Wengers wallet remaining tightly closed with just the shock return of Campbell to appease the fans who crave transfers...............
G4L's poll asked what people would prefer if there was a straight choice between a striker and a goalie...........
As Wenger mentions in the press how he has a pot of gold that would allow him to buy David Villa or Chamakh, but unfortuately for now they remain unavailable due to various reasons...........Well its those sort of signings that 69% of people want to arrive at the Emirates.......
31% wanted a new keeper and thats the camp I am in, a true world class keeper is worth 10-15 points a season and would make such a difference to this team............
We have attacking talent galore, ok not all firing perfectly and a Villa or Chamakh might make a difference and they might bag a few goals, but seen as we are currently top scorers with goals coming from everywhere do we really need another option......?
What we lack is an air of confidence at the back, with Vermaelen and Gallas adding a tad more consistency at the back this season, you still feel that we will always concede, Almunia doesnt have a big prescence, an aura of a great keeper like Seaman did.........
Fabianski let himself down against Stoke last weekend again and showed he is not ready yet to claim the No1 spot, Mannone complete with a fresh contract, should go out on loan, like Szczesny who is at Brentford, Woijech is the one that fills me with belief, he looks super talented and seems to command his area..........
And today we play United and I really believe we can beat them, but I always get a nagging doubt about Manuel, will he perform? He just doesnt fill me with confidence, he looks forlorn and down too often.......
What we need is an experienced Keeper for next 18-36 months while Szczesny gains experience elsewhere. Rumours have surfaced that Buffon is disillusioned at Juventus and wants to finally leave, that would fit the need just nicely for me............
Do you agree? who would you bring in?

Well Keeper is really a place we need experience...
Buffon 'll be great but....pricey
if someone like Juan Pablo of Sporting Gijon can be available ..it might be better ....well let's accept spanish keepers are good..... his performances recently are a delight to watch...

Well Sexyass, (firstly is it?) , I understand and to a point I agree, at the start of the season I was one of the few who thought our squad was strong enough.........but injuries as usual have hit us hard.................
The point I am making is whereby a majority want a flashy striker, it is the goalie position that I think is a weak link............
Dial totally agree about Akinfeev, but he is young and would stand in the way of szczesny, whereas Buffon would give us 3 / 4 years then allow Woijech to step up........

With Bendtner coming back we have a long ball option, another string to the bow even if the arrows over the top don't fly as straight. This will stretch the opposition and give us far more space to play in. Even if we don't knock them in at the same rate as when RVP was up front, surely a slightly rusty B52 can do something like knock the ball down for a Cesc/Arsh/Rocky/Denilson/Nasri/Vermaelen to blast in at long range at least least once a game? As it stands we're forced to keep the ball on the ground until Gallas or Vermaelen come forward for a set piece.
Aluminium is improving every game, but personally I don't think he has it in him to be a world class keeper. If he's the among best in the available market, I can live with that, we need a significantly better replacement if we're buying a goalie to make it worthwhile. Should he dominate his box and keep his concentration up he'll be there. His shot stopping's pretty much fine, he's proved his worth in that aspect quite a lot recently. If we get could get a truly world class keeper for 3+ years I reckon the points he'll earn us is worth a good chunk of our GBP30 million.

I do agree we need a goalie, Almunia is no where near world class and does not fill anyone with confidence, why not Jaaskilinen from Bolton, fantastic shot stopper and he wont cost an arm

I agree DSQ thats what I am sort of saying but none are quite ready, so get buffon in now and give him 3 years before szczesny is experienced enough...........he will be the man.........
