Abou Diaby

Abou is a key player for Arsenal's future. The club fought off competition from all of Europe's big clubs to sign the young French midfielder in January 2006 after a string of impressive displays for Auxerre and the French youth teams.

He has been nicknamed the new Vieira, and he bears a striking resemblence to the former Arsenal player and occupies a similar position. However, although he says he bases himself on his compatriot he is a slightly different type of player, preferring to get forward at any opportunity with a good eye for goal.

His presence adds considerable height and strength to the centre of the Arsenal midfield, and it was a cruel blow to see him injured at the end of the 2005/2006 season by a reckless tackle. Hopefully when he returns to action in 2007 he will get a chance to prove himself once again.
